Teddy Shalon
Managing Partner
Teddy Shalon has over
28 years of experience as an accomplished entrepreneur,
executive, and investor focusing on life science-oriented
ventures. At the age of 22, Teddy started his first
company, which developed surgical devices. He then
moved on to medical informatics and founded Ivy
Technologies, serving as its President and CTO.
Following the acquisition of Ivy by Nestlé,
he co-founded a life science incubator, Metaphase,
where he oversaw all technical and clinical developments.
He later became a cofounding Chairman of Synteni,
a developer of microarrays for measuring gene expression.
More recently, Teddy
founded Neosil — a dermatology-focused specialty
pharmaceutical company with several products in
pre--clinical development; AirXpanders — a
reconstructive surgery device company; Osteogenix
— an orthobiologic company; and iWhisper —
an obesity control device company.
Teddy holds an MS in
Computer Science, a BA in Physics, and a BS in Electrical
Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. |

Dr. Dari Shalon
Managing Partner

Dr. Dari Shalon has over
13 years of experience as an accomplished entrepreneur
and investor focusing on life science-oriented ventures.
At the age of 29, Dari became the cofounder, President,
and CEO of Synteni, a company established to commercialize
the DNA chip technology he developed at Stanford
University. With his leadership, the company became
a major player in the global genomics industry,
resulting in the 1999 acquisition of Synteni by
Incyte Genomics (NASDAQ: INCY).
After successfully integrating
Synteni into Incyte, Dari became the Founder and
Director of the Center for Genomics Research at
Harvard University. The new multidisciplinary center
integrated research from the departments of biology,
chemistry, physics, engineering and computer science
at Harvard to advance the understanding of complex
biological systems.
Dari holds a PhD in
Biotechnology Engineering from Stanford University
and a BS and MS in Engineering and an MBA from MIT.

Amir Barzilay

Amir Barzilay brings with him in-depth experience
and knowledge as a serial entrepreneur, founder,
and CEO of seven life sciences companies during
the past 20 years: CEO of Intec, an orthopedics
medical devices company; CEO of Sirius Technologies,
a healthcare enterprise software company; CEO
of Evogene (a Compugen NASDAQ:CGEN subsidiary),
an agro biotechnology company; CEO of Nutrinia,
a biotech company focused on bioactive infant
formula supplements; CEO of Novofeed, an agro
biotechnology company focused on bioactive feed
supplements; Chairman of Applisonix, a medical
esthetics device company focused on ultrasonic
hair removal; and Coreolis, a cardiology medical
devices company focused on the congestive heart
failure market. Amir has raised venture capital
and other financing vehicles from international
venture capital funds and investment banks.
Amir is a graduate
of Computer Science from the Hadassah College
in Jerusalem, and holds a BA in Economics from
the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.

Dr. Ajit S. Shah

Dr. Ajit S. Shah has
24 years of experience as an entrepreneur, operating
executive, and venture capitalist. Ajit has co-founded
six companies across multiple markets, including
personal computing hardware, software, medical devices,
and the Internet. He has venture capital experience
working as a general partner at Worldview Technology
Partners and as an EIR/VP at Sierra Ventures. While
at Worldview, Ajit led investments in enterprise
software, enterprise hardware, semiconductors, and
the Internet. At Sierra Ventures, he contributed
to investment opportunities in enterprise software,
Internet advertising, and medical devices.
Ajit holds a BS in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of California at
Berkeley, an MS in Electrical Engineering from Stanford
University and a joint PhD in Bioengineering from
the School of Medicine at the University of California,
San Francisco, and the College of Engineering at
the University of California, Berkeley. |

Dr. Sam Sawan
Dr. Sam Sawan has been involved in
the commercialization of technology since 1991.
An academic polymer scientist for the last 28 years,
he partnered with Teddy Shalon to create and run
BioPolymerix, a company founded to develop new ophthalmic
technologies. Since BioPolymerix, Sam has been a
cofounder in six other companies (Surfacine Development
Company, Intelligent Biocides, Synteni, Neosil,
AirXpanders, Osteogenix) devoted to medical and
pharmaceutical technologies.
Sam is the primary inventor on a number
of patents in the life sciences arena and has been
actively involved in creating robust intellectual
property estates for companies that he has worked
with.
Sam has a PhD in Polymer Science and
is an active faculty member at the University of
Massachusetts. |

Barry Cheskin

Barry Cheskin is a seasoned medical
device executive who began his career in the medical
device industry as a senior engineer at C.R. Bard.
Currently, he is the President and CEO of PowerVision,
Inc. Prior to that, he was President and CEO of
NanoGram Devices Corp., a nanotechnology-based medical
device company. Previously, he was the President
and CEO of RITA Medical Systems, Inc., a minimally
invasive cancer device company. He was also a Division
President at another medical device company, Datascope
Corp., where he launched the VasoSeal vascular puncture
sealing product. Barry has served as a Senior Associate
in the management consulting firm of Booz, Allen
& Hamilton.
Barry holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering
from MIT, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford
University, and an MBA from Columbia Business School. |

Dr. Guy Kotlizky
Dr. Guy Kotlizky is one of the most
experienced life sciences patent attorneys in
Israel, drafting over 800 patents during the past
nine years.
At the start of his career, Guy
worked at QBI, an international drug development
company. Later, he worked as a patent attorney
with Mark Friedman, and then was among the founders
of the office of Gal Ehrlich & Partners, now
Israel's leading life sciences IP management firm.
Guy received his BS, MS and PhD
in Plant Sciences from the Tel Aviv University.

| Dr. Bert Rowland

Dr. Bert Rowland has practiced patent
law and has written seminal patents in diagnostics,
molecular biology (including the Cohen Boyer cloning
patent for Stanford and UC, the first patent in
biotechnology), cell biology, agricultural biology,
combinatorial chemistry, contrast media, calcium
phosphates for the treatment of bone, and chemical
reactions (particularly epoxidation), for a total
of over 500 patents.
Bert first worked for Chevron as patent
counsel. He has been a partner of Townsend &
Townsend and Leydig, Voit & Mayer and Of Counsel
to other law firms. He was president of Drug Abuse
Sciences and General Counsel of SyStemix. He was
instrumental or played a major role in the founding
of many start-up companies, including SyStemix,
Pharmacopoeia, Calgene, Immulogic Pharmaceuticals,
Molecular Devices, Receptron, and Matrix Pharmaceutical,
and played a prominent role with numerous other
start-up companies.
Bert holds both a PhD in Organic
Chemistry and a JD, Order of the Coif. |
